An Open Letter To The Staff Of D2Jsp.Org

To whom it may concern,
I wish to point out a small potential improvement that could easily be made to the functionality of this website. This change could in theory bring a great deal of advancement to the way the community interacts with the forum pages. Implementation of this change could easily be handled by the webmaster in a matter of just hours.

Simply stated, there needs to be a method by which active users of this site can acquire the account names of others who have been inactive for more than five years. Not to be confused with acquiring their account, but rather just the name that is more than likely not ever going to be used again. The concept I have devised is actually quite easy, and could even potentially be lucrative for the site itself.

Whether it be to charge a monetary donation to the site for access to a name, or to simply charge double the cost of a normal name change to cover the other account having its name changed, there is still profit to be made from the added function. This process could even go so far as to be handled by a designated staff member, and go through much the same approval process as any of the donor forums real life trades. Assuming that it is approved, a simple message is sent to the account whose name is being taken on both the website itself as well as to their registered email address.

The email would be to inform the potentially returning user that their inactivity has cost them the account name they once had, and their new account name is 'xzycbgvdbn' with the original password remaining the same. The user should also be added to a "Dead List" that would contain all the important information about when the name change took place. Should the old user of that name actually return, it would be up to them to either enjoy themselves on their new name or acquire a different one at their own discretion. To that end, it is simply the price they pay for having left the community for so damn long in the first place.

In closing, I would really like for some of you reading this open letter who haven't had the chance to contemplate it yet...just stop a moment and think about FIVE years. Any account that has been inactive for that long or longer will more than likely stay that way until the end, so what is to stop the staff from simply leaving the account untouched and changing it's name over to something less useful? The name that I wish to acquire through this new method is far beyond even the parameters I have set forth in this letter. I'll not say the name here, but I will go so far as to say that it was created in 2003 and has not ever had a single post, the forum gold has always been at 0.00, not one thing about the profile changed, and the user has not been seen in 3075 days! Why on earth are the staff protecting this antiquated relic?

Please vote in the poll topic whether or not you feel this would be an amazing opportunity for those of us who still actively use this site on a daily basis, and if you have anything to add please leave your opinions here in this thread. Thanks!

I agree, as the timeframe is an extremely long time and this SHOULD be easy to put into the website. There is no need for an account to simply sit there and do nothing.

Would this new function be a helpful addition to the website?

This is the question and not if this will be implemented or not, so I don't get why people are voting no.

YES this would be very helpful addition to the site.
I would like to hear the reason for this not to be going through, or other similar suggestions.

The only thing stopping this change from taking place to be perfectly honest is the obtuse nature of the staffs take on a decade old rule that is out dated for a site that has been around a lot longer than anyone probably ever thought it would last. If your only opinion on the matter is that it will never happen because of the staff denying it then its pretty short sighted. I did not ask the question whether or not it would happen, but rather whether or not it would be useful. If enough folks in this community feel that it should happen, then the staff would be fools to just turn a blind eye to it without even presenting a reasonable argument to their cause of not doing so. I feel very strongly about this and I need to hear others well stated opinions on its usefulness or lack thereof, not whether or not it will happen. Thanks everyone so far for the participation!

i agree that this option should be enabled
and imo, if anyone feels otherwise, instead of just saying no, it will not happen, explain why it wont happen
because the only reason i can see atm, is because its a rule
and rules can be changed

this could be a win win for the site
1. if they decide to charge more for this option, or even the normal rate
a lot of people would want to change their names, a lot of fg income

2. imo, if they decide to remove the account instead of re-naming them
the site re-gains that users fg
