East is more active overall.

East is generally more for pking, west is normally more laid back and pvm.

I've played on both in the past and they're equally enjoyable

It's really up to you. If you know more people on one realm than another, that should be the deciding factor. Otherwise, go with what you think.

And next time, General Help or Diablo II Discussion and Guides is where you should post.
