Oftentimes when a topic is exhausted, I'd like it to be closed as to not allow spam or unnecessarily waste peoples' time. A lot of closed topics would not look pretty, sure, but I don't believe it will be used often enough to be a problem. Also, maybe a compromise can be made. For example allowing the creator to close his/her topic after a certain amount of time.

Some say: just let the topic die and dont post in it anymore..
some say: pm a mod and he will close it..

Imho, it would be nice if you could decide yourself when your topic is closed.
voted [x] yes, however Im afraid it won't be changed :(

mods should do that for example in trading grounds to put that topic in the archives.. and also i think it would be abused in a way that someone might do something illegal and then close his topic, that can be confusing and not right really

Its automatic in Trading Grounds, they get closed after 60 replies.

And yes, it could be abused Im afraid.. :/

imo it shouldn't be a great deal to who closes the topics although i think mods should be the people in charge of this just to keep things under control.. also what happens next if a topic is closed? mods should do that for example in trading grounds to put that topic in the archives.. and also i think it would be abused in a way that someone might do something illegal and then close his topic, that can be confusing and not right really

anywho voted [x] no (its not gona happen anyway)

Spam will always be there and closing your own thread is easy to abuse.

Good points both. Today, I hit it big in poker, and decided to give a little bit back with a donation thread. Once my rounds were done I stated that I was done. But of course it wasn't done as everyone loves FG; so as different people came by the thread they also ask for donations. I give a little more and stated clearly for a second time that I was really done, and to not post any more. (This would've been a great time to close the thread). But are they done? No they are still posting now. I'm sure the topic will die when they realize I've stopped posting in it. But this is just one example out of many where the topic creator ought to be able to close their topic should they choose. It was their creation to begin with.

But talaat I do see your point. I hope njaguar looks over this and weighs the options. And since there is good and bad potential to this, I'm fine with either verdict.

Thanks for your time everyone.

What if the thread creator himself is spamming?
I don't see how this would cut down any spam.
