"You forget that people (and lots of them) browse d2jsp on cell phones now, which makes the limit even more applicable and valid than ever.
Not to mention the thousands of people that still use dialup in some countries (including Germany). " -Njaguar
You also forget that these cellphones are smart phones. They load video, Facebook, and countless other things, my Blackberry handles images of 1000kb plus easily. (and I'm only proposing a slight increase to 150kb, most signatures won't even reach this limit, most of them will be in the 100's area, but it is good to give users some leeway.)
Nobody browses jsp without a smart phone, it would be inefficient because if you didn't have a smart phone, it wouldn't even be worth it to use jsp because the screen is so terrible and there is no keypad to type on.
And give me a break, you can't prove that the give or take 100 people use dial up in other countries. I guarantee the people that use dial up don't have the signatures enabled because dial up speed is 7kb per second.
So, lets do the math. The webpage, jsp, is about 50kb, 10 users per page with signatures of lets say 60 kb each. 60(10) + 50 = 650. 650kb / 7 seconds = 92.9. 92.9s/60s = 1.55 minutes = 1 minute and 39 seconds.
1 minute and 39 seconds just for a page to load? Come on Paul, you know nobody would wait that long just to load a page. So, instead, these users turn of images and viola, it only takes 7 seconds to load a page of important data (posts without images)
Consult KrzaQ2's post from the last thread also.
http://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=47461146&f=258Edit: Now that I look at it, jsp is only around 5 kb at most, so it would only take
.7 seconds to load a page without images on dial up.
