WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY back in the early days of my jsp career I was scammed out of 80 fg. I lost my item that I was selling for an in-game friend.

In the scammer accusation that I posted, I asked "Will I get my forum gold/item back?"

The short answer was "No."

Why is that?

A lot of times on jsp when a user scams they give up on the website entirely because of the difficulty in righting their wrongs. It can be too difficult to repay a large scam, with the exception of returning an item.

Or the scammer makes a multi account, with no intention of ever repaying the scam (for whatever reason). We all know of an infamous multi on our realm/server/game that is capable of doing this. Their scams never get repaid, the person who was scammed loses faith in the website, etc. etc.

Some people do turn around and try and repay their scams. Several former scammers managed to repay all of their scams and eventually became unlocked.

But at the end of the day, people who have bought fg from njaguar or are new to the site and have very little resources are left out in the dust, while the scammer may take some time to repay or never repay at all.

How can the community of jsp fix this problem?

My suggestion is a scammer repayment community fund. This can work like the lottery, where people who are willing send their leftover fg to a pool.

Then, people who have successfully locked a scammer via the s/a forum receive fg as repayment for the scam from the community pool.

fg is then distributed to the people who have been scammed in order by date/time of the lock.

If a scammer wishes to repay their scams, they can either use the method that is used now (i.e. direct repayment via moderator) or, in the case that the victim was already repaid via the fund, then their repayment goes to people who contributed into the fund (in order by date/time of the contribution).

What does this all do?

1) Helps victims get repaid much faster, without worrying about the scammer making a multi.

2) People who contribute to the fund will have more incentive to work against scammers in order to recover their donated forum gold.

3) Provides an outlet for leftover forum gold in addition to the lottery.

4) Even if a scammer makes a multi, they could indirectly repay their scams on the new account (not the most honest way to do it, but it's practical).

5) Could replace the current system of scammer repayment if it works well enough, since it's easy to keep track of a global fund, rather than individual case-by-case basis.

What are some other features that could be tacked onto this?

1) People like myself who have been scammed may not by strained of fg. We can opt out of receiving fg from the pool so that the people who need it most get it first.

2) Users who contribute to the pool can opt out of receiving repayment from scammers. They would then have some sort of donor symbol added to their profile, similar to donor stars, although not as extravagant. My suggestion would be to place the symbol next to their user group (i.e. members, trusted, etc.)

Lastly, I would like to point out specifically that only people who have posted a scammer accusation that lead to a user being locked would be eligible to receive fg from the fund. False accusations, improper accusations, unproven unperm as perm accusations, etc. would not be eligible to receive fg from the community fund.

Any feedback for this idea would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry Eric but no.

Too easily abused. A person could make a multi, fabricate a scam, and profit by receiving FG from the repayment fund on their main, unless I'm reading this wrong because I'm tired lol.

No, all they would be doing is sending fg to themselves.

If we consider the lotto to be in the same sort of fashion, it'd be like saying "No lotto because multis can buy raffle tickets on their mains and the multi increases the pot"

Suppose you get scammed by a person who doesn't want to repay 50 fg.

You are then placed into the queue of people who receive payment after locking them.

I then donate 100 fg to the pot. 50 fg goes to you immediately, while the other 50 stays in the pot for the next person to get scammed.

Suppose then the scammer, after weeks/months, decides to repay. He then pays the 50 fg to the repay mod, who places into the pot.

That 50 fg goes back to me, since I contributed 100. I'm still owed 50 fg from a scammer.

This make sense?

If you really want to contribute to people who were too lazy to use a mediator that badly, just do it yourself.

I, personally, am not interested in helping such people. If I want to help out someone who got scammed, I will make a personal decision to do so and give directly to this specific person.

The "solution" to the problem of scamming is common sense and a bit of patience to wait for a mediator. If people clearly didn't bother with either while trading, why do they deserve my help? I've been scammed stupidly with over 8000+ FG before when I was new, yet I'll admit right now that I don't deserve the FG back. Why should I? I made a stupid decision, loaning a friend who had actually been keylogged unbeknownst to me. It's my fault and I do not expect nor really deserve that FG back.

People should take some damn responsibility in my opinion, JSP shouldn't have to spoon feed you a refund payment for being an idiot, which is the case in 99% of the scams. Downloading a keylogger, loaning some random guy, giving first to a person with 3 fucking posts... whose fault are they but your own?

this would have people abusing it day one they just would make a multi get scammed and then buy something quick with the scammed fg and then they dont care if that person gets locked because they are getting the fg back on their main acct

if you really want to help the scammed people browse the s/a area and send random people who have been scammed fg to make up what they lost
