I don't know what it is, but an allegedly warnable offense is constantly ignored, and unpunished in the trade forums (at least where i frequent).
I don't know if its a combination of being hesitant to warn for this, under staffing in the moderator department, or an unspoked agreement that constant early bumps
will be tolerated. As someone who strictly adheres to forum rules, the lack of attention on this subject is simply infuriating. I can report posts all day long, and i am lucky to see one closed. A person can early bump so often they have a thousand posts a week, and yet, be without warn. now i don't know the exact dynamics of the moderator system, but i do know one thing, we need more, and they need to be more active.

As the site grows, which it does every day, more moderators are absolutely necessary. This problem is constantly compounding, and getting worse, because as each persons post is buried by constant early bumps, he is put in the position to need to early bump him/herself so that ones thread isn't gone in a matter of a few minutes. I understand, its in the sites best interest to keep people posting and active, but is there not a limit? are the powers that be concerned that people will purchase less forum gold if they are given warns that are perfectly legitimate, or vacations for chronic offenses? I seem to remember the guild chats being closed recently because they were too large, and required too much of the moderators attention, well, if you change the culture by actually enforcing rules, and putting in the time required, everyones life will be much easier. people wont have to get frustrated because their threads have a one minute page 1 life span, people won't have to get frustrated because their (in my case) tons of reported posts go ignored. people won't be forced to constantly bump their threads because it isn't instantly buried. mods will have to do LESS work because there would be fewer reported posts. i can't possibly see how everyone doesn't win here, and yet this problem (or apparently not, i can't tell) is growing worse by the day, which is astonishing with the relatively short amount of time i have been active on this site.

so i raise the question:
are the forum moderators under active/ understaffed, and need to be expanded OR
quit crying 09 rando, thats how the site has been, and thats how its going to stay

Its been suggested a million times...just collect the threads and pm the links to a moderator all at once for him to take care of. There are far more serious violations that mods attend to unless you provide them with a handful of links at once.

But honestly I agree, I think there should be at least 2-3 more.

I agree, but it takes time to select the people necessary. I would bet money on it though when D3 comes out, Paul will induct at least ten or fifteen new moderators. The majority of the site will probably be trying to trade and it will get very very cluttered and people will early bump a ton more than they do in d2.

Mods are active, they are just busy. Once they have a free time they assist/help.

No.

that is fine, i am glad they are active. if they are indeed active and busy, then activity is obviously not the issue. there have to be a hundred people that are mature enough and trustworthy enough not to abuse power, and be indiscriminent that could wield no more power than to close early bumps and it would make a dramatic difference in the trade forums. if they are so active, and are so busy, its obvious there are not enough. small and mundane in the eyes of the mods or not, this is a serious problem. and if it is going to be of the lowest priority, lets make that clear, or even remove the rule. this wasn't an indictment on the activity of any mod individually, i am sure they are all doing the best job they can, but there simply are not enough.

I agree - for a site this size there is nowhere near enough moderators.

The DII trading grounds are a mess.

There are possible reasons for this:

1. the mods are slack and don't do their jobs
2. there are enough mods to handle the load

Now i won't state my opinion on which it is, but the staff insist that they do their jobs so they must be horribly understaffed.

and theres an obvious solution to that.

which mod will actually warn/suspend people who create terrible/multiple spam topics in the trade forum?

I've done this a few times before, I PMed multiple mods, but i never got a response acknowledging they even looked at my PM.

The Moderator team does it's best to help keep the forums clean. Some areas are difficult to manage and all work is done on a priority basis, of course. It's important to report topics, because without proper reporting, violations can go unnoticed for longer than normal. In cases where early bumps seem to be going on without end, please consult a Trade Assistant with links t topics where the worst offenders are committing the most offenses. This can help alleviate some problems :)

d2jsp can't just add anyone to the mod team. We have a very large and well-equipped staff and expanding the mod team isn't a matter of supply and demand in terms of any ratio between moderators and violations. I don't think there's any real way to say how many moderators are "enough", because neither the mod team nor the number of violations we see are static or quantifiable in a way that satisfies the desire to know how many moderators it takes to properly assess and treat every violation that occurs. We're always looking for helpful people to join the team, and I certainly don't feel like we're overwhelmed by the number of reports we see. It's a big team, especially compared to how big it was when I first joined it ;)

btw I'm closing this suggestion because it's been suggested several times in similar forms. It's not that it isn't a valid suggestion but I don't think it's something that can be implemented without harming the quality of the current team, and insofar as it would address any particular need, we'd already be aware of it. I think we'll be fine vs early bumps, and please note that they aren't considered the most heinous of violations :)
