I don't like the TITLE of the proposed section. It would confuse people into thinking all Events go there, and some people would spam their services etc in the new section. If it was something like "Mini-Games and Boss Killing" it avoids the confusion. This would require a change in the RS Events to remove the option to make Mini-Game events. I'm 50-50 on this because:
- if we take mini-games out of events, it loses the function of getting people to use events more
- if we take mini-games out of events, it makes the RS section a little more confusing in terms of "X is an event but Y is a service; Z is not an event but it's a "this", and A is an event but not a "that"", etc, if you see what I mean. People won't know where to go for what.
However, IF the RS section users wouldn't be totally confused, another issue is
categorical. Mini-games are events, there's no getting around it. That's possibly the biggest hurdle for this suggestion. We don't want users to be rewarded for failing to use My Events correctly by stetting up a forum; also, a new subforum also requires more moderation than a subsection of events requires. I agree that Clan Discussion isn't used much, and that it's sometimes abused. If most users used Events, Runescape, and Runescape Trading, (and Clan Discussion) as they are intended (which works perfectly fine if people follow instructions), then the question that immediately arises is: "is this suggestion needed?".
If this was suggested before the Event system came into place, I'd be a 177% yes vote (or higher lol). Because we have the Events system, I think that this suggestion is intuitively appealing (and practical OR confusing, it's hard to know the effect) but categorically mistaken. If I go with my "gut" here, I actually think this suggestion may save some confusion rather than add to it, even if it's not technically sound. My own vote is in the balance between these issues so I will NULL. The chief things to balance here are:
using events properly vs adapting events if it solves problems in a meaningful and helpful way
The RS section should NEVER get off easy for not following the rules and instructions, but this suggestion isn't just a way to appease the section's users. It has practical value in its own right. I agree that if the Mini-Games forum is added, Clan Discussion should be merged into it or something, but not left as a stand alone subforum. BRILLIANT idea, not sure if it is something that will be accepted though. Events are events, after all. But logic is a monster with many arms and the way I see it, the arm of convenience is holding this suggestion up, and the arm of already having a perfectly good but still mostly unexplored system is punching this suggestion. What will be interesting is whether the suggestion stands up.
For the record and before anyone thinks I'm trying to poop all over this suggestion, I encouraged Nick to post it because I think it deserves the chance to be considered.EDIT: I appreciate your reply Nick

a system that hardly works for the Runescape section, which was originally specifically designed for Diablo.
This is the only part I will clarify. When My Events was being designed, it was intended as a site-wide feature and RS was meant to be included. Mini-Games are events (especially when people are paying FG vs them, as they become trade events), although I completely sympathize with your point about practicality. Whereas I would prefer that users catch on to the Events system regarding Mini-Games, you prefer that we create a new forum because you believe the RS section won't get it in the end. tbh I don't know what is most practical in the long-term, but your suggestion would remove a sort of "obstacle" for RS section users. And that's really the only reason why I'm neutral about it instead of being against it
