So I thought it would be useful to see how many times someone has edited the post.

Why?

Sometimes people write edit1/edit2 etc.. To show how many times they have edited.
Because sometimes you don't even notice if the person edited 2(or more times)... You just notice the first edit..

some of long living stickied topics are updated very often according to the changes they cover.

this topic has been updated DAILY for example. you can imagine what could happen there.
