It takes more effort to reply to a flame post than to simply scroll past it.
How the hell have you managed to survive on the internet this long if you can't ignore people?

Out of curiosity,, how would this work with quoting?
What if someone quotes the user you have blocked? Will the quote simply show nothing, leaving you frustrated by a reply without context?

haha I can handle it but it's just that kids believe they can do whatever in the other subforums because the mods barely go there and it is frustrating to pm mods and then see that nothing happened.

The quote thing would be a post without a quote box.

I do agree that people on this site tend to act very immature, and it would be nice for me, as a D2 Europe player, to not have to wade through "CHARSI OR JSP?" "OMG LOOK HEIR" "OMG P/C PLEEZ" threads every ten seconds, but all you can do, and all you NEED to do, is pay them no attention. Out of sight, out of mind is true, but a complete blocking feature is not necessary for this, simply report them (for what it's worth) and ignore them.

If this were to happen, it would kind of have to apply everywhere, I presume... but I'm sorry to tell you but it really WILL NOT be added, Paul has already said he has no plans to add this and so regardless of what is discussed herein, it's merely a fantasy where you could have a JSP without such childish behaviour as you and I both no doubt see from the same people day in, day out.

If this were to happen it can be applied to only certain sections if need be because if you look at the trading section to the other sections there are options there that aren't visible in the others. For example, the request mediator button is only available in the trading sections when it is also needed in the other sections too (when you may have a bet to 1v1, 2v2, etc which is completely legal in those sections).

Edit: To those saying the server will be strained is wrong because the server is already being strained from all the topics that need to be reposted because of trolls/spammers. If people realized there was a way to prevent people from reading what they had to say then they may actually take posting as a privilege and not a right giving many mods an easier time and making this forum a better place.

Hmm, which seems more aggravating

1. Seeing a flame post and scrolling past it and the subsequent replies
2. Seeing a blank quote box and knowing that a user you specifically blocked is posting in the thread, followed by the viewing of subsequent replies that you can no longer follow since you have no context. Now you must either choose to ignore those replies (back at square one here) or try to decipher them.

Huh.

Well option 2 wouldn't really be there because that user would/should have realized by then that he was blocked. Also if that one user was blocked by one person what are the chances that he wasn't blocked by others? I believe this idea really cuts down on all the trolling and spam but it is your opinion.

Much love.

You probably should have posted the fact that it would have been applied to only certain sections in your first post in my opinion.

Either way, good luck, but I can pretty much guarantee this'll get closed before you know it.

Goodnight.

If user B is spamming user A's threads, user A can collect the threads, report them to the appropriate moderator, and the person will be warned.
Otherwise, just ignore them.

Ya I should have but what can you do?

Thanks but hopefully if it does get closed I get a legitimate reason why it won't be done because it can and should. I know that the mods see the same person repeatedly flame/troll/spam causing topics to get closed but they can't do much about it. This is just another way of ignoring someone but to a greater circumstance because you would not have to even acknowledge the user since you never even saw what he said.

Just because you block the user doesn't mean he's not going to keep posting in the subforum. Furthermore, if every user in, let's say the Halo subforum, had the "maturity" to block a certain user then said user shouldn't have any "trolling power" in that subforum anyway.

What? If you were to visit the halo series you would understand what I am trying to say. The trading forums are huge and most topics don't last that long on the front page so the trolling isn't as bad since not many people will see it. I'm not saying he has to stop posting in that section either. If everyone or a few people were to block someone then that person would realize that people are fed up with him causing him to at least clean up his act a little if not a lot.

Sure you can do that but warns can easily be removed. You do realize someone doesn't get warned warned after one complaint right? He gets a pm telling him not do it several times and if he continues to do it THEN he gets warned. I have pmed mods many times and nothing has happened so I just gave up with doing that.

I didn't imply "severs" had some sort of huge difference. I said having so many toggles for posts and users being blocked in threads would add to the site loading times and server loading times, which it would. I don't believe what you say on the internet, regardless of what you think, claiming you have some sort of "experience" of something on the internet does not mean you are insantly correct, it merely goes to show that you cannot hold your own argument up without resorting to false claims about experience because your argument is weak.

I don't care if you believe me. It is a simple conditional, a basic database query if that's how he decided to implement it.

You're making a claim based on some supposed technical knowledge when it's pretty obvious that you have none. Whether I have any experience or not doesn't change the fact that you're speaking out of your ass.

I can agree with the rest of the posts here, though, in the fact that it probably won't be added. Chances are this topic will be ignored because it's similar to previous suggestions that were already dismissed.

Even though it's easy to ignore people in general, there are some people you don't even want to bother with. It's not as if this is a 100% required improvement, but it would make the forums more pleasant, which is the point.
