This post is for the people who decide what suggestions to put into practice and which to throw out...

Please seriously consider taking the religious discussion out of the political forums. It's terrible in there! You can't make a religious post without some kind of flame or harrassing post. You can see from what Rew posted I was very excited about finding D2jsp's Christian community. I'm still exicted, but I'm sad at the same time. Just because it's called Political and Religious Discussion doesn't mean I can freely express myself. It's all negativity and hatefulness, just like the most of the rest of jsp!! About the only place you see kindness is in the Donor Forum. Please give this gift to your Christian members!

Thank you for your consideration,
Shannon

I will get behind this, then if people insist on flaming the topics there will be no mistaking for what reason they are there.

No, this is a horrible reason for a few reasons:

I - PaRD has been losing a lot of traffic as it is and it will only get worse if you break it into two.

II - Accordingly, there isn't much desire to create two distinct forums because there wouldn't be enough demand for the new forum. You'd basically have a page full of "encouraging word of the day" threads with little to no discussion. In other words, a religious "+1."

Gotta run right now but there are more.

I am behind Marcus on this suggestion. He works hard and if you check over his dedicated work you will see that he is working to help build a community for religious discussion. Despite taking some hard knocks and some spam, he has done a fantastic job with his word of the day series. It seems to me that there are several users who would like to see a "safe" location for religious discussion. Even if this doesn't happen I think it's a fantastic idea

He doesn't work hard. He posts his scripture everyday and then leaves, contributing nothing else to thread while everyone else in there argue over something completely unrelated to the verse itself.

This whole notion of "safe" discussion is foreign to me because PaRD has long been the only sub-forum that is even halfway appropriate.

I respectfully disagree. If PARD is losing traffic, it's partly because people have been upset about flaming. Breaking it up may decrease forum activity but it may increase quality. In either case there's a pretty big desire for a separated forum. The religious community on d2jsp has been victimized by people who wish to take advantage of the forum space and even insult people who just want a nice place for discussion. The word of the day gets some discussion, but it's mainly a measure to help create some space within the current PARD forum for religious discussion; otherwise it gets marginalized. Marcus works very hard. He is dedicated on a daily basis to helping forge a valuable safe spot for discussion. Even with his diligence, he's been the subject of ridicule and intolerance. Your point that people don't discuss scripture or related matters in his topics points out a reason why his suggestion is very strong. There are plenty of people who want this suggestion to work out. Just read the entirety of this topic. Imagine how many other people don't know about this suggestion.

I hope you might reconsider the benefits of this suggestion :)

I voted yes,

for a couple reasons:

- There should be REALLY strict rules on that forum
- Could have benefits
- Too much spam in PARD

somehow i am in two minds seeing this suggestion, so i'll vote "Maybe or not a good idea."
what is this suggestion all about? is it to instigate discussion about scripture or religious ideas?
from what i have seen of the 'word(s) of the day' i would have to say NO
those words of the day would need to be considered spam because there is never a discussion point with them
and only on the very last one (which was running on with off-topic remarks) did marcus make a second post
(and since all the 'there is no god' threads would have to be classified as religious they would come to that forum as well)

marcus, do you want a 'faith' or 'prayer' forum where the members can support each other or just post positive messages?
there could certainly be a space for that, but what would hinder silly kids (or adults) going there to make crap posts?

in my opinion religion and politics are often interwoven, so there is a justification to have discussion on both in one forum
what is needed is a better decorum on pard, perhaps a little more moderator interference to make that forum work as discussion forum rather than slinging matches and especially +1s, while we are all probably from time to time guilty of making superfluous/silly posts
there are a few which excel in doing that and those destroy many fruitful discussions
plus there are those which are vindictive against certain causes, faith vs non-faith is only one of many conflicts

before making the decision on an extra forum, i think it needs to be considered what you really want and what you would get

nb: what about a blog at a place which could be advertised in the pard sticky (and which roo [sorry, rew] would keep controlled)
