i dont know if this has been put up before, but basically my idea is this..
this site says in its laws that "user names will not be deleted for any reason" or something along those lines.
i believe this is a touch shite, because people make accounts just so they have the name simply so others cannot, for example my friend stephen wants the account name "Stephen" but there is an account already named thus, the thing is that it was made in 2003, was last seen 2000 days ago and it doesnt have a single post count.
what im acctually suggesting is, that user names should have an "expiry date".
accounts that have been in active for longer than 12 months be put on a designated "inactive member list" and the names be available for sale for a fee equal to or higher than a regular name change(litterally buying the account name for your own use so its not wasted on some greedy persons ego)
the accounts would still be there, and accessible, but the name gets stripped and when/if they ever come back to the site, they choose a new account name like they are creating a new account, but keep all their user stats previously held.
also, banned accounts should fall under this aswell considering the accounts are un-useable, (with a cool down period for people who have been wrongly banned and are able to sort out something with paul which results in being unbanned)
i think it would be incredibly popular for members who have always wanted a specific account name but have been screwed because of someone who created the account 5 years ago and have litterally never used the account since. and this would also be a great way to clean off excess forum gold on this site (much like the raffle, rainbow orbs, regular name changes etc.)
