personally I would just invest in the Canadian stocks on the us market there are plenty

The simplest method is to buy A.D.R.S. or American depository reciepts.
A large number of foriegn stocks can be bought on the New York exchange as American depository reciepts. The tax issues and currency conversions are simpler.
You can claim a foriegn tax credit for taxes paid on foriegn investments in other countries.
Foriegn tax treaties and withholding.
you can open a brokerage account at a place like Schwab or Interactive Brokers and access the Toronto Stock Exchange listings through that broker.
Just keep in mind that you’re investing USD into CAD-denominated stocks, so you have to take the exchange rate and any conversion fees into consideration.
