does anyone have any experience or advice with opening a LLC? i am looking into starting a hobby revolving around buying and selling trading cards and i hear opening a LLC can help with taxes.

Depends. If it's just a hobby you may be better to not have an LLC. If you intend to actually make significant income from this activity then yes.
