Swift can handle 50k tps because they are batched by large institutions to reduce total volume and aren't the only service doing international payments.

Ripple might end up a real player one day, but they can't even come close to it now.
You can just google "ripple fast payments scaling" and see that they can handle 1500 transactions a second.
Which even if we assume perfect scalability and perfectly even distribution of transactions wouldn't be able to handle a fraction of current cross-border transactions.

but hey, maybe in the future they will. It certainly seems to be a meaningful contender. But as of right now, they aren't a solution.
