Just because you personally use airbnb for a niche purpose, doesn't mean airbnb isn't in direct competition with hotels in other demographics.
Airbnb have a competitive advantage when it comes to big groups or places in the arse end of nowhere, which serves a fraction of the overall market. The point is, it's not a compelling case for the stock.
I literally don’t know a soul that looks for airbnb for 1-2day hotel/motel stays, US national median being 1.6-1.8 days average stay for a hotel
The data for average stay for airbnb is very murky and changes based on the city but national average is closer to 3-4 days
This is not just me that uses it for a niche purpose but a clear trend of overlapping but somewhat separate markets . A consumer is more likely to be intentionally searching for an Airbnb or a hotel. Not both and comparing rates. It isn’t surprising why airbnb and hotel stay prices have come closer together, nor surprising both are profitable enterprises
I have no position in any hotel or airbnb btw
