we are still as consumers so conditioned on the brief period of low interest rates that we'll be averse to financing anything if rates remain above 5%. it's going to be hard to get "rational" behavior out of consumers because of this. rates probably need to remain high and keep climbing to scare people back to their senses. everyone just assumes it's coming back down as goes the cycle. well... the cycle is decades-long and there's a stronger argument for it going back up, like up to 10-15% range, sooner than seeing <3% again, no matter how consumers behave lol.

my cousin was house hunting during the rate bottom, didn't bite, now says he'll just wait for things to come back down. doesn't work like that, i mean yeah the next opportunity is gonna be a housing crash, but no reason for rates to just be expected to come down on some kind of periodic cycle
