everywhere there is growing. have family and travel for work there some.

Dallas
Houston
San Antonio
Austin

And their outskirts/surrounding areas all have stupid growth business-wise. Infrastructure struggles to keep up

It is interesting because in the Midwest u have a similar phenomenon but it seems across a variety of fields (even healthcare which used to be more standardized) , TX is having run away salaries in comparison to rest of the country

texas gets a bad wrap. yeah the sticks i’d avoid as I would in any state, and it’s hot as hell for most of the year (low humidity unless youre in houston or close to gulf) but overall it isn’t that bad. it’s much more diverse in the cities in general due to the location and a lot of random pockets of enclaves of different groups. san antonio has a large viet and filipino population comparatively which is random but pretty neat. food is quite good overall. gulf is nice if youre on the water.

but yeah, very favorable business state. no state income tax is good. you get boned on property taxes (my parents are always bringing that up since they retired now lol)

Dealbreaker for wife would be the public schools. I can’t remember recently but the rankings were fairly subpar. You basically Have to go private which I guess is offset with the lack of state tax thi

dont blame her there. when i start a family the kids will not be going to public school. and i was lucky to grow up most of my life in to one of the better public school systems in America. it’s still garbage compared to private (which is out of reach for most people)

i dont blame the public system educators - they’re subject to so much bullshit. every year i set aside money to send to my sister so she can buy her kid’s classroom additional stuff for the year (educational material, toys, puzzles, basketballs/footballs, and even basic stuff like fucking pencils!) so the teacher doesn’t have to. it really is ridiculous

texas does not have great public education systems from what I collected at least K-12. the state colleges and smaller schools are solid though

North Carolina doesn't have good public schools either so you have to go private or charter. In the areas that I am looking at in Texas, the schools are pretty decent last I checked.

I think there are good public schools still but you have to really look into the specific districts. U will pay for them with property taxes though, which is fine. We live in suburbs dsm IA and you wouldn’t think it but the public schools here are neck in neck with the private schools. The private schools here are all catholic and personally being agnostic don’t want that shit pushed on my girl. However Some of the public school sex education makes me nauseated but luckily im a good 15 years away from that

Your sister has to pay for supplies to use within the classroom for teaching purposes?

her kid’s teachers do. it’s a common occurrence and it really is a sad mark on our public school system as a whole

quaker schools ive been told are good for private
i am religious but i’d never send my kid or even my enemy’s kid to a catholic school. and i was raised catholic! the balance of faith and education/secular is up to the family unit imo.

Damn that is crazy re teachers having to fund themselves. Yeah I mean our priorities as a society are fucked up a bit with how we value our childrens education. Not to make this political but I would fully support my tax money redistributed with teacher salary’s becoming somewhat lucrative. In other countries being a teacher is actually a draw for smart and talented individuals, but here it’s not remotely the case. The whatever billions went to outstanding loans would be better served in the long run to teacher salaries imo if we are talking about investing in our society. We are lucky that we can send our kids to whatever schools we choose but majority of middle America isn’t as fortunate

Noted on catholic schools haha

yeah i agree with you, id rather pay a bit more in taxes and make teaching be lucrative. education is the ‘great equalizer’ and we would do best to keep our nation’s children competitive. tax wise pay enough already as it is

Having a pool in your garden or a TV in your toilet is more important than decent education or healthcare.
Anyone saying otherwise is jealous of america #1
