"Our Waymo One fully autonomous ride-hailing service operates within parts of the Phoenix metropolitan area, including Chandler, Tempe, Mesa and Gilbert. Our service operates around the clock, seven days a week. Riders can travel anywhere in our territory day and night.
In San Francisco, we operate the Waymo One Trusted Tester program, where select riders will have access to our autonomous ride-hailing service and can share their experiences directly with our team to help shape the future of autonomous driving."
Once again, Waymo cannot operate in my city as they are locked by preprogrammed maps.
Them developing dissimilar products is a good point, but doesn't automatically make Tesla better. It just means they're taking a different approach.
In Waymo's case it's just a matter of scaling the maps, which is pretty easy to do for cities, and by extension the area where the vast majority of the population live. Actually I'd argue that Waymo has a superior method, as the areas where it does work will be far more robust than Tesla's approach. Having a well defined map to start building a general model off of is probably going to be a much smoother and more profitable direction than going for fully generalized AI right out of the gate.
Alright I gotta go do something. I'll respond later if you wanna keep talking.
