Didn't finish the year where I wanted to. My last pay went in today.

I opened a Chinese position after I thought they had already been hit hard and that hampered my overall return for the year.

Still not terrible. Jointly put away about half a million, me being about 385k of that. Spending 50k on two new skidoos a new Honda and A new few more rifles didn't help.

Biggest take away from the entire year was seeing my parents after two years. Watching them hurt after a life of physical labour doing blue collar work. My father told me when I was there and at ths time fretting over having to pick up a new quad that life is a one way street.

That sentence life is a one way street resonated with me for the rest of the year.

I missed my goal by about $40K... also built a new rifle. Today I actually ordered a Kestrel 5700 Elite and Sig Kilo 5K.

You're a hobbyist I would guess. Mine are more for other purposes. I don't do much hobby shooting. Rounds are in limited supply here and quite expensive.

The only ammo available here is your common rounds. 30.06, 270, 243, and .308. and sometimes 300WM is in stock.

As far as goals go though, ultimately we're all likely ahead on our overall progress even if you miss your end of year goal but I don't think the market will continue to sustain these levels of return. Eventually it has to return to the mean.

I annually revise the next year-end goal based on where I landed at year-end but I still have an overall eight year goal and if I look back at the progress I estimated I would make I am one year ahead. Its not due to savvy investing or more saving, its been driven by a market returning unsustainable returns.

I reload all the ammo I shoot. & yeah, I agree about us returning to the mean. I could totally see the S&P trade sideways if we blow another credit bubble like 1999-2011.

Private equity could be attractive but unfortunately not a viable option. Typically for anyone to take you seriously you have to pony up in the seven figure range if not not eight and even if you find one that is sub a million it means you're likely putting a significant portion if not all of your net worth into one basket.

A tool for the already high net worth individuals and not for most of us.
