the average annualised market returns are around 8%, which far exceeds the interest from any bank account

invest only what you're willing to lose - i have about 20% of my cash invested in the stock market and the rest in bank accounts. that's a good medium for me.

my advice would be unless you really know what you're doing, invest in funds for long term growth rather than constantly buying and selling stocks yourself.

1. Buy "A"stock.
2. Tell people it will rise soon.
3. People buy "A"stock and make it rise.
4. ...
5. Profit!
