Just doing some reading,g and I figure coins that get mentioned in a lot of places will eventually do well in the future, not to mention coinbase is the most popular place that I know (correct me if im wrong ofc) and the coins they sell there are probably going to do well regardless because more people use it etc

Well, neither of those are on coinbase. Nor, will they ever be. But, you're right, coinbase does have the most volume and is the most well known.

Popularity is bad investment, by the time you hear about it, it's usually too late.

Depending on market volume and site responsiveness, sure. You can exchange to BTC/ETH/LTC, transfer to USD - > Crypto exchange and get USD.
