This year is a good example of reprioritization for myself.
-31 days spent in in the alpine skiing.
- Have a good chunk of May off to skidoo / winter camp (my favourite month)
- Will spend 3 weeks with family in September at the cottage
- Potentially a trip overseas at the end of November but that's not sorted yet, ideally Philippines but the wife does not have the freedom I have. She does not have to work in the higher position she currently does but enjoys her work.
I had offers to do a lot of consulting work this year onto of my job but that would tip the scales back to work over life and being taxed at nearly 50% on every additional dollar earned, I am not overly incentivised.
Am I spurging, not really, I am just not calculating the FV of every dollar not saved anymore. I legitimately used to do that, and now, not so much.
Sitting around 9/3 work to off months. If I can get that to a 6/6 I think that will ultimately be the sweet spot.
Point being, I am far less content with buying big ticket items, and maintaining a work-life balance where you don't even get to use them or appreciate them as intended just so I can buy the next big ticket item compared to reducing overall time spent working and enjoying what I have.
If your career fulfills you to the point where what you get from it exceeds your out of work-life, I commend you, mine does not and its not particularly close!
