Guess MEXC failed the community audit and exposed as griefters
This thread documented when Binance delisted XMR that they pushed the price way way down, blocking withdrawals while leaving deposits open

tbh, when even trusted mediator on this jsp forum using centralized exchanges that are stealing their customers money... thats just depressing lol

tldr: stop using centralized exchanges, they're all shady, literally all of them

meanwhile Haveno is opensource, trustless decentralized exchange that been running for a year now: https://retoswap.com

https://coingecko.com/en/coins/monero
MEXC currently reporting Monero's price at $211 while all the other exchanges are at like $214 -$216 price range

MEXC (-$5)

Quote (MEXC)
English name of the token: XMR

Withdrawal Status: Withdrawal is not available

Deposit Status: Available

Trading status:Tradable

That's the whole binance bullshit all over again lmao
(for context on the binance bullshits been documented in this jsp thread from post #68 to #82 or so)
like, closing withdrawals while having deposits open lmao and pushing that price down

just saying, that shit right there is evidence that the whole centralized exchanges in the cryptospace are a straight up psyop against the actual underlying technologies

P2P decentralized exchanges are the thing meant for P2P decentralized digital cash
Not those centralized entities hijacking the cryptosphere

Monero bringing back meaning to 'cryptography' in 'cryptocurrency' as well as being actual usable 'currency

- Retoswap website:

- Retoswap source code / releases:
https://github.com/retoaccess1/haveno-reto/releases/

Edit:
- Retoswap (haveno-reto) / Haveno trading volumes stats:
https://haveno.markets/markets

(which current daily volume on haveno (the software) / reto (the network) is getting close to the centralized exchange 'kraken's daily volume but as a P2P decentralized exchange, when SeraiDEX will be released that's when will actually have a chance at overtaking the big centralized exchanges in daily volume)

Price went a bit crazy the past few hours going from $233 to peaking at at like $350, it's now stabilizing back to currently $261

Shortly after the funds began to be laundered via 6+ instant exchanges and was swapped for XMR causing the XMR price to spike 50%.

So I guess $330M is what it took to raise the marketcap from $4B to $6B

In brief

  • Spar supermarkets are expanding Bitcoin Monero payments across Switzerland after testing the system in two initial locations.

  • Shoppers will pay at checkout using QR codes powered by DFX Swiss’s OpenCryptoPay platform.

  • The rollout marks one of Switzerland’s first major retail adoptions of Bitcoin Monero for everyday purchases.

Which SPAR is a pretty big supermarket chain being literally worldwide in 48 whole countries around the world

They using the DFX thingy which been having Monero support and been integrated in cake wallet for awhile already as can be seen on that january 2024 post:

Nine hours ago a suspicious transfer was made from a potential victim for 3520 BTC

Theft address: bc1qcrypchnrdx87jnal5e5m849fw460t4gk7vz55g

Shortly after the funds began to be laundered via 6+ instant exchanges and was swapped for XMR causing the XMR price to spike 50%.

So I guess $330M is what it took to raise the marketcap from $4B to $6B

Not financial advice but there might still be about $100M in BTC from those $330M worth of BTC, not all been converted (yet?)
Volume from all exchanges combined wasnt even at $330M during the pump but was closer to $200M in volume (including usual daily volume) so most likely still sitting in exchanges and might not have been withdrawn either, oddly enough no "withdrawals blocked" from the centralized exchanges so it is thought that they either blocked withdrawals only for that 1 individual and havent came forward yet or.. the individual just kept the funds on exchanges without trying to withdraw

Many many many news articles written by LLMs (thats the 'news' nowadays...) been going with the narrative of "stolen BTC converted to XMR" but the original twatter posts from zachxbt also mentioning that it's from an OG crypto user
So aside from the LLMs written "news articles", speculations are that it might just be Ross Ulbrich converting those BTC to XMR or something along those lines

As of now, it's just speculation on who transfered those 3520 BTC and converting some to XMR, probably more info on the matter to come later, who knows

aight so just looked around a bit on the bitcoin blockchain from where the allegedly "stolen" 3520 BTC came from..

honestly it dont even look that suspicious, looks like a regular wallet from some super rich individual that been transacting since 2014, had many wallet changes which is very common and even sent to vanity addresses to type whole sentences / hints even back in 2021 referencing anonimity and whatnot

but I guess that's what happens when some crypto whale that been stuck on bitcoin trying to move those funds to a more privacy respecting technology...
then u got the whole fucking world, literally all of it writing bullshits articles about "oh cause they switched those funds to monero then its totally sussy and those 3520 BTC were totally stolen" while literally not a single soul so far came forward being like "so hey guys, someone just stole $330M millions from me"
like, nop, no one

like just imagine minding your own business wanting to move some funds around and u got some autist on the twatter (zachxbt) saying that it must be stolen funds and now the bullshits articles writing the same shit, so dumb...

but I could also be wrong and who the fuck knows if some dumbass with $330M got $5 wrench attackedwhich Monero also address that issue with having the wallets private so less at risk of getting $5 wrench attacked if using Monero and following proper opsec practices

but I guess every single news article about monero has to somehow paint it in a bad light even when not true or just speculative
because as of today it's still pure speculation if those 3520 BTC were even stolen in the first place..

Anyone can open a block explorer and follow the paper trail from all over the years, to me at least, it reminds me how my own bitcoin paper trail was from back then until fully making the switch..

like, I dont know but these mofos dont either

Oh right and the wallets used many many years ago also used the exchange kraken (and many others) but somehow that zachxbt twatter autist only mentioned "coinbase", like, I seeing way more than just "coinbase" on that btc paper trail from years ago

The XMR/USD on kraken was also being pumped which is thought to be the same user from the 3520 BTCs

So unless more info on the matter am just gonna assume it wasnt a hack but just some very rich crypto user that wanna be left alone despite all the bullshit articles saying that it was a 3520 BTC hack that been stolen and "laundered" :bonk:

nvm was actually the other way around, receiving funds in same transaction as the addresses to write sentence / hint

but when even fucking FORBES running their clickbait articles just on speculation:

Update: It is confirmed to be a social engineering theft from an elderly individual in the US.
So I guess, same as the $5 wrench attack mentioned in post #147 if the rich ass boomer instead of using btc would have been using monero and proper opsec practices it could have been avoided in the first place
(well, that aint a source in itself saying its "confirmed", my guess is that the centralized exchanges were asked to who the address belonging to, which they have KYC info on the individual, they said is from some old dude and zachxbt still running on speculation that it was theft, which it could be but also could be birthday gift to the family or whatever lol)

Onchain the BTC originated from *interesting* sources so would be curious how they originally acquired it
oooooh so someone that was using bitcoin and had $330M of it was into shady things, got it!
but is the monero that getting the bad press, as usual :bonk:
