Not yet. I'm going to invest when I get back from Afghanistan. Until then, my money is in a CD. Only thing I've done is bought $1k worth of Iraqi Dinars for like $250 off of a friend. I doubt it will ever happen (I'm sure it won't), but 1,000,000 Dinars (that's how much I have) was worth $330,000 before the war.

Yeah stocks are risky unlike bonds but if you diversify your portfolio enough you should have a positive return unless your an idiot. But you do need to have enough capital to start with...

bonds have risk too. There is risk wherever you place your money whether it is under your bed (theft), the bank (inflation), bonds (defaulting, inflation, rise in interest rates, etc...), and of course stock (deterioration of underlying company). Without risk there is no return and the beauty of investing in the stock market is that it opens your money up to a wider range of possibilities where you are able to adjust your risk to a satisfactory level.
