DJIA = Dow Jones Industrial Average

Dow Jones is a stock index of 30 stocks that are regularly traded at the NYSE... Index Components are the 30 companies that the dow jones stock index is comprised of, which has changed many times over the years...

You say Dow Jones is a stock index. As in it's always going to have those 30 stocks? No more no less. And 30 companies, is that the only amount of companies that can be with (30) stock index? When you say changed many times over the years that's different companies gaining possession over a stock?

It is not always going to have those same 30 stocks, just last month they removed GE and added Walgreens Boots Alliance. It doesn't change often however, they've only had like 7-8 changes in the past decade.

The DIJA has historically only consisted of 30 stocks, but I guess that doesn't mean it couldn't change in the future, but I would expect it wouldn't.

A stock index can consist of more or less than 30 components, that is just how many the DIJA has.

Changing many times over the years meaning the removal of one company and the addition of another, such as the change between GE/WBA mentioned above.

Okay I understand that now. Who has the authority to change the stocks? Change how many there is and changing between the companies?
