Last I played pd2 it was dying off...not dead. It's definitely fun, especially if you have a group of friends to play with. It adds lots of content and allows about any build to be viable. Rework of all uniques and sets, ability use worldatone shards to add random things to items such has sockets you couldn't normally get, like 6 os azurewrath, or add all skills, stats etc...mercs reworked...all have auras and can wear gloves boots and use different weapons...like a1 crossbow or bow, a2 spears or pole arms, a3 any wand orb or 1 handed weapon, act 5 can use about any melee...not to mention wear full IK set lol...they added end game content gear and a item called a map. Tier 1-4. All have random stats and can be rolled, fortified, use the shards on them and so much more. The maps are used in a5 and open a portal to new areas. New bosses new users...but downside is I don't think population is as high as d2r, you need a legit cd key from blizzard, lotssss of strict rules with next yo no leniency. Like no 3rd part site trades, no jsp, can't mention many keywords in game or discord, and yeah you have to use their discord and their tradesite...but not sure how the Market is with the population being much lower than a year ago. No one plays non ladder and you loose shared stash, wanna say the seasons are 3 or 4 months long, some bugs and server issues(sometimes)like the golden days, It definitely has downsides and is not for every Diablo fan but it is enjoyable if ya want a change up. I would also recommend trying some mods on d2r.
Interesting, I did see a YouTube video from mr.lamaa or whatever his name is recently saying that blizzard will have online mods for d2r on this next update, if that's the case then pd2r will be extremely popular id imagine
