I've always liked the idea of trying Diablo II mods, but everytime they say "we're different", it's the same crap again: overpowered runewords, crazy AoE skills, ridiculous power creep, and outright stupid "Quality of life" changes (like the dumbass PlugY idea of adding infinite character respecs).
So, thought I'd ask here. Are there any mods that actually retain the Classic D2 experience? No runewords, no crazy Enigma spells, etc.
I wonder if my old D2War mod would have been of interest to you. That was a classic-only mod, it retained the basics but had extra content at end-game and new tiers of items you could find. We kept them limited to the scope of classic affix's but with LoD skins. We also added collector items which had old school bnet dupes that you could mf for in endgame zones. It's no longer hosted up as a server though unfortunately. I would have to dig out some old harddrives for the actual mod.
