if i get a companion in new vegas(boon for instance) do i need to equip him with guns and stuff or does he already have some i dont want to give up my cowboy repeater and it says he only uses rifles:(

all the companions will start with a weapon (they dont lower durability or use ammo on anything ever) and boone starts with an anti-material rifle I think but you can later equip different items on him.
