Can you explain? I'm sorta new to LS
the dps caster classes traditionally are Mage, Warlock and Alchemist
However there's nothing actually stopping you from casting on any other class. Casting charms typically deal higher damage (by a handicap of like around 30ee let's say) than equivalent ee weapons but cost mana. This has created an interesting situation where casting and melee scale sort of inversely.
Ee weapons tend to be better early when monsters are low level and squishy and trail off the higher monster defense grows.
Ee charms tend to be better late when the extra damage is necessary and your character has a higher mana pool so you dont have to wait in town as much. (Many offcasters start melee while pumping int until 30-35+)
Both of these things become less true as the value of your gear increases though. Extremely expensive melee gear does a pretty damn good job of keeping up with high tier caster gear.
Casting also has the benefit of being better equipped to heal themselves.
This is all discounting any sort of hybrid or guardian build
Overall though meleeing on the melee classes and casting on the casting classes is the path of least resistance and while off class casting can yield huge benefits Id say don't worry about it until you're more familiar with the game.
