If they remaster d2 i bet it will be a stand alone game so everyone will be starting from scratch

oh idk about that. Possibly though.

Don't think the game is dying any time soon....with the remaster of Star Craft things are lining up for a remaster of D2

^... if the game was going to die, it would have long ago. I just came back after 2 years... and thats only one person. This game is the one that defies all games.

It doesn't matter how many people play at any given time, it's about them simply shutting down the servers eventually just like they turn off support for old OS's
It's only getting more and more underpopulated to make matters worse, too.

Blizz is currently paying coders to upgrade the bnet servers, that's the opposite of turning off the servers. I don't think they would actively be updating to bnet 2.0 if they were just to shut it down.

They are also remastering other classic bnet games.

Do you know how many games use battle.net severs?
Me either, but it's quite a few.

They aren't updating for Diablo 2 I assure you.

They had an update a year ago to make d2 run smoothly on newer operating systems. As long as the game is making them money, which it is, we can expect more out of them.

Just go to the battle net forums and check the classic support.

They have said multiple times they're upgrading Diablo 2 to bnet 2.0 along with other upgrades / changes.

It's a fact... you can't dispute this.
