In theory it seems to be against the rules. In practice it isn't.

What is the reason for not punishing these people?
Are there too many of them to deal with?

I have been active here only for about 3 months, could someone please explain why this is allowed?

And please, don't recommend blocking the user, most of you probably know that it isn't a solution to the problem.
Blocking prevents future abuse from happening via PMs.
We are talking about an abusive message sent before adding the block.
Not to mention that blocking the abuser doesn't prevent him from abusing other users.
It doesn't require a lot of thinking to figure these out.

BTW, the trashtalker I met has an account registered in 2007 - it has a star and more than 10k forum gold. If the account isn't second hand then we are talking about an adult being with a primitive mind, these people rarely improve so this was probably not his first abusive PM here.
AFAIK the star means that he purchased forum gold with real money - that can be basis for a conflict of interest when it comes to actioning certain accounts here.

Private messages aren’t monitored. Best action is to block and move on. If they harass you in topics, report and move on. Eventually it’ll go away.

#post 2 is the answer to your question. Private messages are not moderated. If someone offends you in your topics, just hit the report post button and keep going your way. Reacting to taunts is food for such a person. As a last resort, you can collect all the evidence and send it to the moderator. Also, remember that if you don't see an action, it doesn't mean it hasn't been taken. Not all actions of the moderators are visible to the regular user of the forum.

It means that this website expects me to swallow the insults coming from its primitive users.


I contacted a regular moderator (not junior, not senior).
He didn't have access to PMs and actively sidestepped my questions.


Based on the info I have it seems to be a complete waste of time to contact a moderator.
The rules basically support the trashtalkers.
Not a good user experience, makes me think whether it's a good idea to be part of this garbage.

dealing with these types of people are intrinsic to the internet and will always exist. it's best to just block and move on..

This one guy kept PMing me to call me a f@ggot, saying he would kill and rape my dog and doxx me. Never interacted with him on the forums just started messaging me out of the blue.

That's why civilised places on the internet have moderation in place so you can't say things like "go fuck yourself".
However, private messages seem to be unmoderated here so it's a dirty underground place with no rules.


You mean swallow and move on? Blocking doesn't do anything, it isn't a solution to this problem.

In the real world trashtalkers don't enjoy complete anonymity and their actions are actively punished by society so in most cases you don't have to just "swallow and move on".


Why don't they deal with it if it's only "a few"?

the internet is not all sunshine and roses though. and blocking them is 100% the solution along with the posts above

if you want to suggest a feature to improve the QoL of pm spam, you can always make a site suggestion. looks like you want a report link on the pm window or something. but this goes against the entire concept of "private" messages, which afaik has been shot down in the past

a few rand trolls out of the thousands of pms sent daily is going to negate and ruin the concept of private? makes zero sense
