is it legal to buy this with FG to be gifted? like steam games

Anyone have bad experiences doing this?
I remember back when d3 was coming out I traded a bunch of WoW gold for 1 year of game time. Don't remember how it was done, was over 10 years ago.
Anyways after a month or two it all got canceled and taken back, both the game time and d3.

edit: forgot to mention, bliz was giving you d3 for free if you bought 1 year of game time in WoW
