Extra gold only increases the amount of gold you get when dropped. MF increases the amount of magic and up items you get which would reduce other drops like gold. People with gold find characters run trav because they're guaranteed to dropped gold and your MF helps with their drops being better.

MF also has diminishing returns so around 400mf is a nice little cap for your investment. 400mf is 4x the drop rate. So if magic item has a 10% chance to drop it now has a 40% chance. 1% items become 4%

400mf is about where diminishing returns makes it pointless to get more as more becomes less valuable

You can get something like 1700mf. 300-350 is fine with diminishing returns and still being able to clear fast. You need to find a balance. If you have high MF and can't kill a lot, it's pointless.
