1) Trading basics:In this section I will outline the basics of how to post a trade on jsp, complete the trade, and general trading etiquette.
When you arrive at the
Trading Grounds, you must first locate the correct
Realm and core before posting your topic to ensure you are posting in the correct forum.
You should also familiarize yourself with the
Site Rules and
Trade Rules to ensure the best experience on D2jsp. Once you have familiarized yourself with these rules, you're ready to start trading.
When creating a topic on the Trading Grounds, you want to make sure you do everything possible to help your item move quickly, while getting as close to what you want for it as possible. Here is how to create a trade topic:
- Topic Title: Explains what you're selling, or buying. Think of something that will catch other user's eye while still being relevant. For example; Super pretty Druid pelt ft or something of the sort.
It is important that you read the Trade Rules as well as Banned Trade Topic Title and Description words stickies to understand what is allowed to be posted. - Trade Description: This is used to describe a little more about your item, or what you're selling it in exchange for.
- Post Message: This is where you explain exactly what it is that you're looking to sell or purchase. If you're selling, you must explain the item completely, including stats and other applicable information. Posting a picture of the item is also an option.

1.1) Perform the trade:Once someone has expressed interest in your item, or offered the item you're looking for and listed the price(s), you may then contact that user via
private message. It's important that the trade details are posted/agreed on in the trade topic before the transaction takes please. Trades are not to be conducted via pm for trader's safety.
The PM must contain the following information:
- Specify the item/service you're talking about. Including a link to the trade topic would be a good idea here.
- The game name/password where the trade will be taking place. NEVER use games without a password, and NEVER post the game information in your trade topic. With a private game, you should know exactly who is in your game with you.
- The character/account name you will be using for the trade.
- The details of the trade.
Once you both are in the same game and have confirmed both of your identities, it's time to complete the trade.
Generally, someone must go first for a trade to happen. Some users are okay with going first, others will demand that you go first. If you do not feel comfortable, or you cannot reach an agreement with the user, you should request a
Mediator to assist with the trade. If you do not use a mediator, follow the information in the
How to prevent scams guide to ensure you are trading as safely as possible.

1.2) Start price:Whether you set a starting price or not is completely up to you. Basically this means that you setting a minimum price for your item, and bids lower than that price do not count. Example:
Starting price is xxxfg. There are some good and bad things about doing this.
- Good: It's possible that you can sell your item faster.
- Bad: It's possible that you may over price your item and not be able to sell it. Or you may price it too low and short yourself on your item's value.

1.3) Fast trade price or "BIN":This is similar to a
start price. The difference is that a
BIN price (Buy It Now) states the price at which you would like to sell the item for. Just like a
start price, there are good and bad things about this.
- Good: Items generally move faster, and you may get closer to the amount that you want.
- Bad: You may choose the wrong price for your item and cause it to take longer to sell, or sell for much less than it's real value.
I personally try to set a BIN on every item I sell. It gives prospective buyers an idea of how much you're looking for so they can base their offers from there. But it is not required to set a BIN.

1.4) Deadline:A deadline (DL) is useful if you are trying to move an item as quickly as possible. Like the
fast trade price, you set a BIN price on your item. The difference is that you generally set a lower price on the item for a certain amount of time. Once that time expires, the price may go back to the original asking price if you choose.
For example: BIN reduced to xxxfg for the next 4 hours.Typically the time intervals used x amount of hours, or your next bump.

1.Bumping:To "BUMP" simply means
Bring Up My Post to the first page.
IMPORTANT: Every forum has it's own Bump rule. Make sure you read the forum's rules so you understand it's Bump policy.
But in this case, the Trading Grounds has a 4 hour Bump rule. The Bump rule is in place to make the trading grounds as fair for all traders as possible. The rule on the Trading Grounds is 1 bump every 4 hours. Bumping your topic before the 4 hour time is up could result in your account possibly being
suspended or even
warned for violating the rules.

2) How to price check:Price checking is done by users who are familiar with items, and how much items usually go for. This is done in a certain area of the Trading Grounds that have been designated specifically for price checking items.
2) Price Check forums:Much like posting a new trade topic, you will select the appropriate realm/core for you, and select the "New Price Check" button to open up a new template.

Your topic MUST contain the following information so that other users can best assist you:
- Your item's description (stats, gfx, ect) A picture works best. How to take/post a screenshot
Once you have posted the thread, you will probably receive answers that look like this:
- "100+fg imo" - Meaning the user believes it is worth more than 100fg.
- "500fg max" - Meaning the user believe it is worth a maximum of 500fg.
- "Charsi!" - Meaning that your item is basically useless to most traders.
You can choose to take their word for it, or average the prices you've received to come up with an educated price. Ultimately, it is your item to do what you choose with.

2.2) Effectively using the Trading Ground features:
Located at the top of your page, there is a Search feature at your disposal.

This can be used to locate multiple threads with key words such as:
- A user's posts in your Trading Ground
- Key item words (specific runewords, item names, ect)
This can be used to try and locate threads selling an item you're needing, or even to find average prices on an item that you're unsure about. This is a very useful tool.
You also have a
Price Guide at your disposal on the Trading Grounds.

These are for the most part fairly accurate with basic things such as Runewords and unique items. Since rare items vary greatly in pricing, the prices may not be as accurate.
Current Price Check guides: (as of 5/21/14)
[i]Since these guides are rather lengthy, you may find it useful to use your browser's "find function" (CTRL+F) extremely useful.

3) Scam prevention:D2jsp has put a
Mediator system in place to ensure trader safety in various types of trades on the forum. A
Mediator is a user who have been recognized as helpful and trusted by their peers, as well as the site staff. These users mediate trades to give both the buyer, and the seller 100% confidence that their trade will go smoothly.
3.1) How to request a Mediator:Located at the top of your trade topic, you will see a link that says "Request Mediator".
Simply click this link to send a request for someone to mediate your trade. Mediators are sometimes very busy, so it's important to wait as patiently as possible for a mediator to contact you. A
Mediator will send you a PM to confirm information about the trade, and give you detailed instructions from there. They will also confirm their identity with you in game, as well as via pm. If you are in game with someone claiming to be a mediator, and they will not pm you, leave the game immediately.
If you are wondering when you should contact a mediator, the choice is really up to you. Using a mediator is the only way to trade safely. The general rule of thumb is, if you have doubts, request a mediator to assist with the trade.
