I click the little image icon to add the "IMG" and "/IMG" tags...

It looks like this:


But it still won't link the image... When I submit my post, it looks like it just strips the IMG tags and posts the link.

You'll need the direct link for images which includes the file extension. In the case above it's


Right click on the image --> Open Image in New Tab --> Copy that link and paste it here with tags.
