Not sure what to do with this.

I was just trying to be vigilant and assist this specific mediator with hunting down Avatar's and Signature Image violations.
Found quite a lot in his friends list and donor list and sent him evidence, he replied on the first one graciously thanking me... but has since ghosted me.

Later on (with proof) I realized he is getting a different file size number than I am, and I wondered how something can be enforced when we are getting 2 completely different file sizes, and why that is.
His browser/computer shows my avatar as 37.64KB but mine shows it as 38.5KB.

Any help alleviating this confusion so that I can be more vigilant in the future is greatly appreciated.

Also, another question I asked him, and yet he still ghosts me on:
Why are Avatar's only allowed to be below 50KB and signatures below 70KB, however the site is coded to allow people to do so?
In that same context, why those maximums, but people can have images in their profile that are literally MB's, I've seen some as far as 17MB so far.

Seems like it can't be for precious server space, or else there would be the maximum on the profile stuff, no?

Thanks.

The Members++ staff-group is responsible for signature/avatar violations.
If the user you are referring to is not in that group (or higher), they may not know the answer to your question(s), not necessarily ghosting you?

There are various ways to get image size information and some tools aren't perfect, will round the file size, and/or give an estimate of the file size.

I also get 37.64kb on your avatar.

The file size specifications have always been the same, I don't know why the numbers are the way they are, but to my knowledge you can report excessively large file size images (in profiles) to M++ as well. Are they in violation necessarily, probably not, but I am sure they try and handle it the best they can.

Hi there,

I'm sorry if you had to wait to get your questions answered but if a particular M++ or trade assistant staff member is not replying, perhaps he's busy and you're more than welcome to PM another such as me,
don't ever feel that you're ghosted here.

The first step to understanding why the site cannot effectively regulate image file size & dimensions with coding and why there are slight variations with file sizes is that all signatures, avatars and profile images are not directly hosted on D2jsp,
you and other users are using some form of image hosting service then linking them on the site with BB codes thus there are some difficulty to limiting image file size and dimensions when the images are not hosted directly on the site, we're not affiliated with any of the image hosting sites and to my very very minimal-to-none knowledge of coding only the image hosting service can restrict what is being uploaded,

with all that said that is why the Members ++ and trade assistant role exists so we can manually regulate that, I also want to add that the reason why we regulate image sizes and dimension is for aesthetic purposes and it's due to the fact that we have many users from all over the world browsing this site and those on the other side of the world or browsing on a slower connection or on mobile with 3-4G data may get a slower load time for large images.

Secondly, also related to above -
Some image hosting sites tend to add data tags or encode images strangely when you upload them, thus for example an image that displays as 38kb on your computer when you check it's properties might end up being around 38.5kb or even 39.5kb when it gets hosted online,
this can also happen the other way around and the images get compressed to a smaller size, the variation is usually very small but if you want to be extra safe you can comrpess your images to 3-4 kb under the limitation.

I hope that answers all your questions,
feel free to PM me if you have anymore questions related to this agenda and I will try and reply as soon as possible.

e/ Fyi mediators are responsible for mediating trades only and all staff roles can be mediators, the staff group for handling signature and avatar violations are M++ as well as trade assistants.

If you have patiently waited for a response, and the Mediator in question has been adequately online to read and reply to your inquiry, but hasn't, let me know.
