Where's the Line Between Spam and Style

A light discussion on creative sales threads and moderation

This is not my issue directly, but I wanted to share something I've noticed.

A friend of mine does a lot of trading on the forum. Instead of posting a typical black and white sales thread with item names and prices, he adds some flavor — memes, gifs, jokes. It's chaotic, funny, and sometimes a little messy, but it's also refreshing compared to the usual walls of plain text.

That said, it seems like the moderators don't always appreciate it. His topics often get closed, and sometimes he gets warned or even suspended for what they call "spam."

Another thing we've noticed:
Even bumping a thread with a meme can be considered spam.
That feels strange, since bumping is a normal part of forum activity — and using a meme that matches the vibe of the post seems harmless.

But here's the thing: he's just putting personality into his sales post.
If someone finds it too chaotic or confusing, they can scroll past it.
If someone enjoys the humor and creativity, maybe it actually helps the sale. At the very least, it brings a little color and fun into a trading space that often feels very black and white.

So where is the line?
• When does a fun or unique post cross into spam territory?
• Is it just a matter of personal taste?
• Is it about readability, layout, or technical issues like too many images?

From what I can see, we might be losing some of the little creativity we have left on this site. And maybe there's room for both structure and style.

There could be violations with early bumps or offensive material that could cross the line. I am not familar with much of his material, or the circumstances. But I would keep it minimal and nothing over the edge.
