Or just look at guilds of users in sub forums you are active and see if you like their charter

I believe it all depends on what are you looking for exactly,

Some Guilds are based PURELY on Specific Games like.

Example: D2R Only // Ladder Slasher Only // World of Warcraft.

Some guilds are more based on Graphic Designing, Anime Based Etc

Like Joshawarrior mentioned, you can probably go around checking the Public Guild Topics and see what their all about.
