At Walmart. How many containers does it fill? I am thinking of 12 inch diameter or 4 gallon containers.

Hey bud, my mother is a master gardener

A typical bag is 2 gallons (there are many haha)

Just use 2 of these bags, water and you’re good to go

Also recommend distilled water for the first time watered

Good luck buddy!!

What I should ask is if garden soil, how many plants per bag? If potting soil how many plants per bag? The question about containers is idiotic.

My mom does 3 plants per bag.

Something about getting enough soil for the roots and drainage

Start there, but it also depends on the plants

3 is her go to

You talking about the big potting soil bag or the smaller garden soil bag?

On average you will need 50-120 liters pots , you can use a mixture of 50% garden soil & 50% potting soil.

50-120+ liters for 1 tomato

80+ liters for 1 cucumber

120+ liters for 1 watermelon

1 plant per pot

if anyone is interested in a few tips about plants in pots you can check this topic:

As you can see on this picture i used 3x 38L pots for my tomatoes, but these are airpots, it's better to take bigger pots because more soil and so more nutrients.

I saw some smaller pots with yellow leaves in it. Did you kill them off or transplant?

No, in fact the pot with dwarf beans was too small, but for dwarf beans specifically it's ok to plant several plants in the same pot, just i was trying to get as much as i can in a small pot and it didn't worked out, no enough space, not enough soil & not enough nutrients.

In fact a 50 liters pot could be way better to replace it, we can say that it is a failed but interesting experiment because I wanted to see if this dwarf species could manage such a small space but this is not the case.

This is particularly visible because the bean yields were too weak, chlorosis of the leaves (yellow leaves) can be a sign of nutrient deficiency or too frequent watering, here I think it was both notably because of the size of the pot and quantity of soil.

Last year, it was in fact the first time that I planted dwarf beans but it was predictable that this pot would not be spacious enough (it was only 3 liters).

Also note that you should not be alarmed by the slightest little yellow leaf, old leaves can turn yellow and die without the plant suffering anything.

So the Goku dude was trolling. I ask this. Can I grow two plants with one garden soil bag and three plants with the bigger potting mix bag? This is without your rule of massive 10 gallons to 20 gallons containers a plant. I have grown tomato in 5 gallon before and it does get weak when the summer gets hot. I know why a 10 gallon would be suitable for tomato, but not for other plants. It seems too much of a waste. I grown cucumber plant in a 12 inch pot before and it does put out but the plant get weak too when it get super hot during mid day of July to august. I have grown winter squash too in the grown that have four inches tall soil and they just need space. They don’t need 70 liters of soil. This is similar to your squash in the ground experiment.
