Am I able to take existing copyrighted material owned by d2jsp/ladder slashers for the purpose of my sig/avatar?

Can I modify the images in anyway I see fit as long as I align to the site rules?

i think i've seen other users with bits of the logo and artwork in their sigs, don't think njag would have a problem if it's just for jsp and you're not doing anything bad with it

edit: there's the disclaimer at the bottom of ladder slasher's page too, so i'd ask for permission first

You need to ask njaguar for permission

Everything on the internet people use for sigs and avas is pretty much all copyrighted, I wouldn't see this being an exception.
People still use them, just throw the images in a ai generator, then you wont have to worry about it at all.
