I currently purchased a new vehicle and ive never had to buy snow tires as my previous car came with new snows.
Currently have 215/45/18 on my 2023 sentra SR, but buying snow tires sized 18s are quite expensive.

I've heard I can go down to 16 inch tires, but what should I be looking for as an exact number for my tires? 215/45/16? I've heard a bit skinnier is also better too for cutting through snow.

Check what tires your car manufacturer recommends on its website or type it into Google.

I would imagine just buying tires that fit your 18" rims would be cheaper than buying 4x new 16" rims and 4x new winter tires to fit those rims

Where I'm from, you're "legally" only allowed to increase or decease your tire size by about 3%. There are websites online where you can input your current tire dimensions and your desired tire dimensions, it will give you a side by side comparison of both sizes, as well as tell you how much % is changed.

My best guess would be that 215/55/16 and/or 225/55/16 would be good fits

Hope this helps?
