Necro a thread? Like for example a thread long a go might have had an interesting discussion or a good source of information or jokes but for whatever reason people forgot about it and it never got bumped in a while. Then you go to add to it but it's closed or expired.

Why are threads closed in general after a certain amount of time? Clearly by design what's the reason? Seems kind of sus.

Threads expire after a few months if no new posts are added to them. You can always contact a moderator and ask him to reopen the thread.

historicity of necroing a thread goes back for years. IIRC, there's a multitude of reasons which can also be different for every forum admin. off the top of my head (could be more): keep discussions up to date, the fact of necroing itself, letting old topics die (encourages user to make a new one), etc
