looking to stream airplay stuff from phone/ipad to my tv

dont have a tv that has airplay so that wont work. aside from buying a tv, was looking to buying a used apple tv

looking online, some say all apple tv gens work with airplay, but some say only apple tv 4k+ gen

anyone confirm this? i can get my hands on an apple tv 3rd gen for like 30$, which would be perfect. but i would like to ensure i can use airplay to watch videos/pics, etc from my ipad/iphone without any issues.

airplay works with my TCL Roku TV if you want to find a more budget TV down the road instead.

It appears iOS 16 broke airplay support on App TV 2nd and 3rd Gen.

I’ve got an Amazon fire stick but it’s not compatible. Roku stuck could work as long as I don’t have to pay any app fees lol. Any other recommendations? That one will definitely have airplay yea?

Pass in the tv, rather be able to move the device around if needed

yep, the roku one has airplay (listed as a feature near the bottom).

ok so i tested this on a roku tv, but it says the movie format was unable to play on the tv...is there a certain format?

i was able to airplay through an app on the amazon firestick, however i was only able to use it for 1 hour, then it asked for a subscription
