It has benefits but you don't have to, just click "new post" on the top left for your image upload.

Just to add, https://imgbb.com/ and https://gyazo.com/ are also great alternatives to imgbb depending where you're based in, imgur has the advantage because they never really delete your pics but the other two seem to have a faster upload speed and bigger limit (I'm based in Asia btw).
