The old gifs will not be returning. Should a graphic artist wish to recreate certain stars (using the exact same pixel dimensions, style, and a size that is similar (not double or triple), in an alpha transparent png), that "looks better", I'm open to them.
Like every update, it's impossible to please everyone, sorry. However, even if someone did do such, chances are there will be a huge divergence of people agreeing and disagreeing whether it's better or worse.
