Id recommend upgrading to windows 10 for security as Windows 7 has been end of life for a quite a while now and you're vulnerable to previously patched exploits. As for sticking with windows 7, you can partially improve performance by getting a usb and getting it setup with readyboost. Granted the improvements are limited, it should help a bit.
