So I’ve always been a casual gamer on my consul. I recently decided I want to get a gaming PC and crossover to the PC side however I know nothing about it. I want to play games call of duty elder scrolls online and top end games without issue and high-quality, also unsure between Intel and AMD. Can anybody offer their input?

Nowadays in 2024 it's much easier to build a decent PC than 20 years ago. Look for a PC builder company in your area and see what they're selling, you can't go wrong 99% of the time.

My only piece of advice: don't fall into the water cooling trap. It's needlessly complicated and unnecessary, adds a lot of maintenance and cost to the build. Overclocking is negligible and useless in 2024, and other than that, even a high-end *gaming* CPU will thrive on beefy air cooling. If your CPU requires water cooling for optimal operation then it's not a correct gaming CPU.

You dont need to overdo it really.
I have a 1080ti and it has worked perfectly fine for every game I have played.

This is true

Most gamers I know prefer Ryzen processors and are fine with a 1060 or higher graphics card. My opinion, don’t cheap out on motherboard or processor though. Rest can be upgraded easier. I teach computer science so feel free to message me with questions. If you’re serious about building one, I can help guide you with it. Prebuilt might be cheaper at the moment though.

Agreed. Can’t go wrong with Ryzen or even a higher end i5/7.
Def dont cheap out on Mobo & CPu which, unfortunately if you go prebuillt they mostly have the graphics card as a focal point and everything else is mid tier.

note: don't actually buy this, didn't check ram, just threw whatever in there.

the main thing you want to do is make sure you get the best cpu/mobo combo with compatible ram.
if low on funds, you would sacrifice on the GPU side and just get whatever (something used local/something cheap new)

when you get the funds, all you upgrade is the GPU and you're rock solid for (hopefully) 5+ years.

edit: im still rocking a 7700k/1080 ti on my main rig, first built in 2017 when i only had a 970 for gpu at the time

multiples of 8 for the ram is more the standard, would avoid weird configs (stick with 16/32/64...etc)

best consumer cpu is the 7800x3d atm for gaming
gpu is whatever you have to spare

If you have a Microcenter close to you, they have great PC bundles for Motherboards, RAM and CPUs.
