Sorry for your loss if truthful KoksSucht. I fear that you're not trolling this time, as it is very likely that it could off happened like you said.
As people ask me how it happened, this was something I haven't seen before. My guess is me and ferdia were extremely unlucky. I hit exit at the 5 min window where nothing was saved :~B. Ferdia left/got kicked just when servers started saving again~~ t4t blitzz.
See post by blizz rep; battle.net was in a state where characters couldn't save. Ferdia probably exited when the server DID save again. RIP.

What u can do is make sure both traders leave game INSTANTLY after trade. that way in case off non-saving you will atleast both get the items back and avoid any loss/dupes.
