It's not so much their calling the movie stupid. The manga was all about Dororo, the girl. Hyakkimaru was basically a supporting character in the manga/cartoon. While in the Game/Movie they want to focus more on Hyakkimaru and make Dororo the support. Look at the new Land of The Lost movie. The original makers decided to purposely spoof their own series to make it relatable and enjoyable to the new generation who enjoys slapstick humor and crude jokes over a long-standing plot.... and people in felt lizard suits. Anyway they wanted to make the movie to focus more on Hyakkimaru like the game to cater to our bloodthirsty generation of teens and twenties. It did well to make a product that grew up with its fanbase.
