Although a 1 socket armor is worthless, you don't really get screwed out of anything because it was worthless to begin with anyways.

The armor has a 1/4 chance to get each number of sockets (1 through 4) EXCEPT if the armor can only have 3 sockets, then it has 50% chance of 3 sockets, and 25% chance of 1 and 2.
